This is a project from the 2022 Ramon y Cajal Programme. Studies on energy justice conducted over the past decade have shown that a set of parameters specific to the Global North has often been applied to the analysis of contexts in the Global South, resulting in the neglect of non-Northern worldviews.
Aspects of ‘classical’ energy justice (distributive, procedural and recognition) have gradually expanded to include intersectional aspects and, in short, a ‘pluriversalist’ conception of energy justice that takes into account the historical and socio-political contexts in which energy projects are implemented. PLUNGEMED considers an area straddling the Global North and Global South, the Mediterranean, with the following objectives:
– Investigate trans-Mediterranean commercial, industrial and geopolitical relations in the field of energy, both fossil and renewable
– Develop a concept of energy justice that takes into account the cultural specificities of the Mediterranean area
– Conduct case studies in North and South Mediterranean countries, particularly on the role of energy communities and collective energy management projects
