Steps for the approval and recognition of secondary studies
How to apply for official approval and recognition:
In your country of origin
Fill out the Application.
Fill out the approval and recognition form available on the official website.
- Pay the fee
Make a transfer to the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport:- Account number and address: ES41 0182 2370 4402 00203771 BBVA, C/ Alcalá, 16, 28014-Madrid (Spain).
- BIC: BBVAESMMXXX.
- Validate your documents as follows:
- Official translation into Spanish if they are not in Spanish done by a sworn translator who is authorized or registered in Spain.
- Legalization, depending on your country of origin:
- If the student’s education system belongs to the Hague Convention: Single legalization by competent authorities of the country.
- For other countries: Legalization through diplomatic channels with the following agencies in the country of origin and in the order indicated:
- Ministry of Education
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- Spanish consular or diplomatic representation.
- Document certification
Take the legalized originals to obtain certified copies with official entities. - Submit the application
Submit the application and documents at:- Spanish consular or diplomatic representations.
- Ministry offices in Spain.
The process takes a few months. To enrol in IQS, you can use the Conditional Enrolment Form while waiting for the official decision.
Spanish universities may conditionally admit students if they prove that they have submitted the corresponding official approval and recognition application while the approval procedure is being handled.
Conditional enrolment will only be valid for one academic year.
As an exception, if you can prove that no decision has yet been made on the official approval and recognition, enrolment may be extended by one further academic year.
In the event that official approval and recognition is not granted (regardless of possible appeals and/or other measures), both the enrolment and the studies carried out (grades, evaluations, etc.) will be null and void.

If you wish to obtain official approval and recognition of studies or degrees earned abroad through the Government of Catalonia Department of Education, you must meet the following requirements:
- Residence in Catalonia: You must reside in Catalonia in order to process it in this manner.
- Municipal registry of inhabitants certificate: You must prove your residence with a municipal registry of inhabitants certificate.
- If you do not have the municipal registry of inhabitants certificate, you must start the process with the Ministry of Education.
