The Industrial Engineers Association of Catalonia recently honoured Rosa Nomen with the "Academic Career Award" for her extensive career and the positions of relevance she has held in the academic world.
Maria Salamero, President, and Narcís Armengol, Dean, with the Industrial Engineers Association of Catalonia led the award presentation to recognize a career dedicated to the education and training of future engineers.
Holding a PhD in chemical and industrial engineering, and currently the president of the Mediterranean Congress of Chemical Engineering, Dr Nomen has also been the Vice-rector of the IQS School of Engineering, the IQS Registrar, and headed the UNESCO Chair for Education, Technology, and Development at Ramon Llull University.
The annual industrial engineering event sought to highlight, through the projects and awards shown on stage, the importance of promoting, maintaining, and recognizing talent as a lever for encouraging excellence among engineering professionals.
IQS student Maite Molins Colomer received the award for the best Master Thesis in the “Young Creativity” category for her work “Re-endothelialization of cadaveric decellularized veins for coronary artery bypass grafting,” along with students from other Catalan universities.
An IQS doctoral thesis also recognized
With the support of the Caixa d'Enginyers Foundation, a grant of 10,000 euros was awarded to IQS doctoral student Francesc Canalejo Codina to conduct his thesis “Design of a polymeric auxetic stent to treat paediatric aortic coarctation.” The jury highly valued innovation in stent design because it is adaptable to the growth needs of children affected by aortic coarctation and because it will minimize surgical interventions during the growth stages of paediatric patients.
The event also represented a night of celebration because the Industrial Engineers Association is celebrating 160 years of history this year.
