The unique circumstances that arose due to COVID-19 lockdowns led us to reconfigure the workshops that IQS has offered over recent years and turn this year's edition of workshops into a series of online webinars aimed at secondary school baccalaureate students. The workshops featured a range of rigorous discussions on current topics related to the fields of science, technology, and business management.

Eight sessions were held between the months of February and April, all of which were aimed at providing attendees a first-hand opportunity to discover and delve into the research and activities carried out in IQS laboratories, offering workshops in the fields of chemical engineering, chemistry, pharmacy, biotechnology, and industrial engineering. The students were also able to conduct an analysis of case studies in the fields of business management, international business, and marketing. Students attending the online workshops noted their solid interactive nature as they were welcomed by a speech from the leader of the sessions then moved on to a discussion where the attendees could interact and ask questions related to the topic they had covered.

In field of science, Dr Xavier Biarnés, professor of Bioengineering, led the session “What is the Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 genome?” on 24 February. Next, Dr Beatriz Artalejo, professor of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, gave the lecture “What is the role of a pharmacist and what are medicines for?” on 15 March. Finally, Dr Cristina Fornaguera, professor of Bioengineering, brought up the topic of vaccines with the students in the session “What are people who are developing COVID-19 vaccines actually doing?” on 27 April. In the area of technology, the participatory online workshop entitled “What is the best vehicle in the world? From electric vehicles to electric vehicles.” was led by Dr Oriol Gallemí, professor of Industrial Engineering, on 21 April.

The sessions related to the field of business management and marketing began on 4 March, led by Dr Carles Malet, professor of Business Management, under the title “Entrepreneurship and business initiative.” Then, Dr Noelia Jiménez-Asenjo and Dr Belén Derqui, professors of Business Management, shed light the world of marketing with the sessions “Marketing strategies for business internationalization” on 18 March and “The Science of Colour in Marketing: Why is Facebook Blue and Coca-Cola Red?” on 13 April. Finally, the secondary school students had the opportunity to interact with Dr Santiago Niño, professor of Economics and Finance, who led the session “The economy of tomorrow is already here” on 8 April.
