IQS Takes Part in Euroanalysis 2025: Scientific Leadership and International Recognition

Events Institutional Research 23 September 2025

From 31 August to 4 September, Barcelona hosted Euroanalysis 2025, the 22nd edition of the European Conference on Analytical Chemistry, a benchmark meeting for Analytical Chemistry across Europe. The event brought together nearly 700 participants and leading companies in the sector, and was organized by EuChemS – European Chemical Society, the Catalan Chemical Society (SCQ), and the Spanish Society of Chromatography and Related Techniques (SECyTA), which held its 24th annual edition within the framework of the conference.

IQS played a prominent role in this year’s edition, both thanks to its support as an institutional sponsor and for active involvement by its researchers in the conference’s organization and scientific programme. Dr Cristian Gómez Canela, professor with the Department of Analytical and Applied Chemistry, formed part of the organizing committee, while Dr Jordi Díaz Ferrero, Dean of the IQS School of Engineering, was a member of the scientific committee.

Participation by IQS research groups

Various teams from the Department of Analytical and Applied Chemistry actively participated in the conference, presenting both oral and poster communications. Dr Xavier Ortiz and PhD student Albert Salas participated representing the Environmental Laboratory. In the Chromatography and Proteomics department, Dr Gemma Gotor participated along with doctoral students Mar Losada and Oriol Rojas. The Environment and Metabolomics area was represented by Dr Cristian Gómez, Dr Marc Marín (postdoctoral researcher), and PhD students Maria Olivella, Natàlia Rodríguez, Emma Moragrega, and Irene Romero.

This broad representation reflects the diversity and quality of the lines of research in Analytical Chemistry that take place at IQS.

One of the highlights of IQS’s participation was the award given to doctoral student Mar Losada Baranera, who received the Young Presentation Award, sponsored by Springer Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry. Her presentation entitled “Analytical Strategies to evaluate Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs) of modified mRNA in biotherapeutic development” highlighted the innovative research she conducts within the GEMAT Group – Nanotherapies Laboratory, in collaboration with the Department of Analytical and Applied Chemistry at IQS.

Analytics 5.0: science serving society

Under the slogan “Analytics 5.0: answering societal challenges,” Euroanalysis 2025 focused on the fundamental role of Analytical Chemistry in responding to global challenges such as health and wellbeing, responsible production based on industrial innovation, and environmental protection. The use of green methodologies and technologies, from smart sensors to high performance multimodal techniques, was at the heart of the scientific debate.

The participation by IQS in this conference reaffirms its commitment to research aimed at the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promoting collaboration between academia, industry, and young researchers.
