The event was held within the framework of the Training Plan of the Government of Catalonia’s Ministry of Education.

Under the umbrella title “Experimenting to learn,” a series of conferences, workshops, and exhibitions were held aimed at compulsory and baccalaureate secondary education teachers who work in the field of science with the aim of providing them with tools that may be useful in performing their teaching activities.

The conference began with a lecture by Dr Víctor López Simó, professor with the Department of Mathematics and Science Education at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, entitled “The didactics of science: a key tool for learning design.”

Subsequently, two parallel workshops were held during the first day of the event. The first was entitled “The use of light as a tool for medical diagnosis: activities for the medical photonics classroom,” and the other was entitled “Physics and Chemistry activities in schools and experiments in the classroom and laboratory.” These workshops were followed by a final session on practical ideas for classrooms.

The second day of the conference was mainly dedicated to workshops. In concrete, the workshops “Scientific challenges: what does water hide? Role playing”; “Antibiotics: resistant or sensitive bacteria?”; “Eight activities with homemade (or almost homemade) products”; and “Exploring new techniques to improve the future of biomedicine: 3D Scaffolds and Drug Delivery Systems.” The conference wrapped up with the closing lecture “Half a decade raising awareness about science: past, present, and future” by science disseminators Pol Garcia and Nil Salvat.
