On 26 and 27 September, IQS was the setting for a new edition of the Science Teaching Conference, part of the Educational Plan under the Government of Catalonia’s Department of Education. The initiative, which has been very well received, brought together Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate Secondary Education teachers with the aim of offering them useful and innovative tools to enrich their teaching work in the field of science.
IQS Hosts a New Edition of the Science Teaching Conference with Great Success

With the motto “Bringing reality and current events to the classroom: Let’s experiment!”, the conference combined conferences, workshops, and exhibitions. The agenda included the 8th Physics and Chemistry Teaching Conference and the 5th Biology and Geology Teaching Conference, thus consolidating this benchmark meeting in the fields of education and science.
The opening lecture, entitled “Artificial intelligence and science teaching,” was given by Dr Antoni Hernández-Fernández, a PhD in cognitive science and language from the University of Barcelona, who highlighted the challenges and opportunities of AI in science education.
The workshops were divided into two large blocks. In the fields of Physics and Chemistry, sessions included “Reactions and energy: what makes natural science exciting,” “The periodic table and electrons. Molecules and ions in air and water,” “Let’s illuminate physics,” “Demonstration of temperature and heat experiments,” “The mysteries of cleaning products,” and ” 3D printing aiding science classrooms.”
In the field of Biology and Geology, the workshops included “The Sea and Mountains: Introducing Turquoise in the Classroom,” “Rock Detective,” and “An Educational Look at Sustainability.”
In addition, the event featured the conference “Science and myths. Exploring certain legends,” by Josep Corominas, a retired professor of physics and chemistry and a science outreach specialist, who offered a critical and informative approach to the erroneous beliefs that often surround science.
The conference was organized by the Official Association of Doctors and Graduates in Arts and Sciences of Catalonia, IQS – Ramon Llull University, and the Government of Catalonia’s Department of Education and Vocational Training, reaffirming the commitment of these institutions to education and innovation in the sciences.
