IQS has organized training sessions on Soft Skills and Power Skills for its doctoral students with the aim of strengthening their personal and social skills as these are essential complements to their technical and scientific abilities.
Held in Manresa at the end of January, the Training Sessions form part of the IQS PhD Talent Programme that IQS launched in 2022 to support the comprehensive development of its research staff in training. This programme forms part of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R), through which the European Commission (EC) is aiming to ensure that institutions take concrete measures to improve the working conditions for research staff across Europe, as set out in the European Charter and Code.
In addition to networking and knowledge sharing activities, the IQS PhD Talent Programme also offers assistance and guidance through a coaching programme for each participant so IQS doctoral students can be recognized in the labour market for their talent and excellence.
The Kalidoscopia cooperative, experts at training and consulting in Soft Skills, was in charge of leading the different dynamic activities that were carried out during the two days of training. Participants worked on aspects such as leadership, self-awareness, emotional intelligence, positive attitudes, communication skills, and career opportunities.
Furthermore, the sessions fostered the exchange of ideas and experiences between doctoral students from different disciplines such as chemistry, biotechnology, engineering, and economics, thus creating synergies and opportunities for collaboration. In addition to the different workshops and exercises that were held, the research staff also enjoyed dinner at a restaurant in the historic centre of Manresa and a visit to the magnificent mosaics that adorn the Sanctuary of the Cave of Saint Ignatius in Manresa, with Director of IQS Dr Salvador Borrós serving as the special guide.
The result of this first edition of the IQS PhD Talent Programme was extremely positive, both thanks to the great participation rate (40 attendees) and the high satisfaction that the students expressed. They noted that this experience helped them to understand themselves and their colleagues better, not to mention acquiring key skills for their future work.
