IQS, a pioneer in Spain with the My Green Lab 2.0 Certification in two laboratories

IQS-URL has become the first university institution in Spain to earn the My Green Lab Certification under the new 2.0 programme, a renewed standard that raises the level of rigour and requirements for sustainability in scientific laboratories.
The first two IQS laboratories to complete the process achieved excellent results: the Synthesis Laboratory obtained the GOLD level, and the Biochemistry Laboratory reached the GREEN level, the highest recognition awarded by the certificate.

This milestone marks a turning point in IQS’s commitment to sustainability and strengthens its role as a leading university in the transition towards more responsible, efficient, and globally aligned research practices.

“The process has been a major team learning experience as well as a contribution to the sustainability of the institution. We will continue certifying laboratories for a more sustainable future,” stated Dr Cristina Alonso, one of the project leaders.

IQS extends its congratulations to the entire IQS My Green Lab Team for their dedication and leadership: project leads Antoni Planas and Ricardo Serafim, department heads Magda Faijes and Ana Belén Cuenca, and professionals Joan Miquel Fornas and Victòria Codera, as well as everyone else who actively contributed to the process.

What is the My Green Lab Certification?

My Green Lab is the most internationally recognized laboratory sustainability programme. It is backed up by Race to Zero, supported by the United Nations, and recommended by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Its approach combines scientific evidence, assessment tools, verified reports, and practical guidelines to drive real change in the daily operation of laboratories.

With the achievement of this certification, IQS is strengthening an ambitious roadmap: to continue expanding the number of accredited laboratories and to integrate the My Green Lab model as a strategic pillar of its sustainability policy.
