Dr. Ricardo Massarico Serafim, IQS professor and researcher in the GQF group

7 questions for 20 January 2026

What do you like most about your job?

Many things… the daily exchange of knowledge with the students, the excitement of making scientific discoveries and the opportunity to improve the well-being of our society through chemistry.

What would you like to spend more time on?

With my family and Lolo (my dog). 

What are you most proud of?

I am very proud of my journey to becoming a professor here at IQS. My passion for science has given me the privilege of living in different countries, connecting with people from different cultural backgrounds, and making good friends.

The value you most appreciate in people …

Respect, honesty and determination. A good sense of humour is also important in life. 

A place to get lost ….

In some of the paradisiac beaches of Spain or Brazil. 

A dream you would like to pursue …

It would be very exciting to develop a clinical candidate molecule from our research. I would celebrate this achievement watching for the first time the northern lights in Iceland. 

What do you still have to learn?

Something is extremely wrong if you do not have anything else to learn. There are several proteins which I want to understand more deeply their contribution to health and diseases. Apart from science, I would like to learn how to play harmonica.
