The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management Sant Ignasi (Ramon Llull University) has been granted two quality certifications: Biosphere Tourism and SAFE TRAVELS by the World Travel Tourism Council (WTTC).
The Biosphere Tourism certification for sustainable tourism recognizes companies that design products and services that are respectful, non-aggressive, and that meet users’ needs without putting the future of society and the planet at risk.
Meanwhile, Barcelona Turisme is responsible for granting SAFE TRAVELS certification in the name of the WTTC. SAFE TRAVELS recognizes travel protocols that are safe on a global scale, and allows those travelling to any country to identify the companies, organizations and destinations that have adopted standardized safety protocols for dealing with COVID-19. Barcelona Turisme will officially grant HTSI this certification in a ceremony on May 7.
These certifications provide international recognition and guarantee the trust of travellers seeking safe journeys; they also ensure the application of safety measures for dealing with the global pandemic in keeping with the standards of the World Health Organization.
Furthermore, they demonstrate HTSI’s desire to meet the goals of the 2030 Agenda and the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs. The SDGs promote equality among humans while also defending the planet.
HTSI works towards safe, sustainable tourism
It is also important to note that HTSI and the other institutions of Ramon Llull University have combined their efforts to create two commissions focused on work in these areas: Impuls per l’Agenda 2030 (Promotion of the 2030 Agenda) and Grup de treball per a la Descarbonització (Working Group for Decarbonization).
Finally, these certifications help to raise the awareness of students and other members of the HTSI community in sustainability, solidarity and hospitality. The School also offers well-rounded training to transform our students into excellent professionals and responsible citizens that work to promote the human development of tourism.
