GAM – Applied Mechanics and Advanced Manufacturing

2021 SGR 00531

Coordinator

GAM (Group of Applied Mechanics and Advanced Manufacturing) is a multidisciplinary group of scientists and engineers focused on research and problem-solving related to the advanced manufacturing, the development, characterisation and efficient use of engineering-grade materials, and the enhancement of structural performance.

The team has proven track record in additive manufacturing (polymers, metals, optimisation, and post-processing), materials science and engineering (composites, fracture, fatigue, impact, nanoindentation, tribology, coatings, and diffraction), and dynamic analysis of structures using artificial intelligence-based approaches.
The group is recognised for its contributions related to the thematic areas of development, and the definition and resolution of industrially motivated problems, highlighting its systematic interest in transferring technological innovation to the industry.

In this environment, GAM develops its R&D and technology transfer activities in the following areas:

  • Materials analysis, characterisation, and optimisation
  • Advanced sensing systems
  • Non-destructive testing
  • Development of artificial intelligence-based monitoring systems
  • Industrial testing and remote monitoring
  • Additive manufacturing
  • Design, development, and optimisation of manufacturing processes
  • Forensic and industrial surveys
