Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology

It is a degree that has a biological, chemical and physical basis, which is later expanded with knowledge in experimental techniques, cell cultures and applications of biomolecules and biomaterials.

What would you highlight from the degree?

There are two things that I consider have been very important during the degree. Being able to apply in a practical way what is seen in class, the professors address examples related to the experiments that are being performed in the laboratory. The second thing is the availability of the faculty outside the classroom, who have no problem answering questions.

Could you briefly describe the grade?

It is a degree that has a biological, chemical and physical base, which is later expanded with knowledge in experimental techniques, cell cultures and applications of biomolecules and biomaterials.

What do you like most about the degree?

Without any doubt the daily hours of experimentation, which give you experience to work safely in the laboratory. In addition, the laboratories are equipped with the necessary resources, both equipment and materials, which allow students to practice the general techniques used daily in the laboratory and even some of the more innovative techniques.

Why did you choose IQS and what would you highlight about the university?

I chose IQS because the number of students in the classes is small, which helps to promote a more personalized treatment from the faculty, who know you and know who you are. In addition, the labs are very well equipped and you spend half the hours of the degree there.

Have you done an internship and can you talk about it?

Yes, in fact, I am doing the external practices and the TFG at IQAC, working on a project autonomously. This is based on water-in-water emulsions as a model of membraneless organelle. Here I use different equipment to prepare and study the emulsions in order to understand their behavior.

What skills have you gained from the degree?

During the degree, in addition to acquiring a theoretical basis that helps you develop as a biotechnologist, I have also acquired a wide range of experimental techniques, comfort when working in the laboratory autonomously and critical thinking, which allows me to overcome the different challenges that I encounter in the laboratory on a daily basis.

What would you tell a student who wants to study at IQS?

It is a university where students have the necessary resources to acquire a practical knowledge of the different areas of biotechnology, in addition to a broad theoretical base. This, together with the external internships, allows the development of students as professionals.
