Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering

What I liked most about the degree was undoubtedly the possibility of being able to do an academic exchange abroad, where I was able to continue studying the same subjects, but in an unforgettable experience.

What would you highlight from the degree?

About the degree I would highlight above all the practical hours that are performed (2 hours per day from the first year). I would also highlight the use of software used in the industry on 3D design, finite element calculation, simulations and mathematical calculations. In addition, I would like to highlight the possibility of doing an exchange abroad and doing paid internships in important local and international companies.

Could you briefly describe the grade?

During the degree, students acquire knowledge of the different fields covered by industrial engineering, including mechanical, electrical, electronic, chemical and process engineering. The demanding academic level of the classes is very well combined with the practical hours. The first year is a basic training where the students continue with the high school syllabus until they reach the advanced level necessary for the following courses. From the second year onwards, more specific subjects on the aforementioned fields are taken, so that all the industrial aspects are seen in a general way, so that in the future the student can choose the specialization he/she considers.

What do you like most about the degree?

Personally, what I liked most about the degree was undoubtedly the possibility of being able to do an academic exchange abroad, where I was able to continue studying the same subjects, but within an unforgettable experience. I would also like to highlight the fact that I was able to do a combo of TFG + internship in a well-known company.

Why did you choose IQS and what would you highlight about the university?

I wanted a university that was close to the student where the faculty could help me in my training. In addition, the center has a recognized prestige, the result of the effort and perseverance involved in the years of study, which allows you to leave qualified for employment.
I would highlight that the teachers are always willing to help, the compact schedule in the morning, from the first year to the last year, and the large number of hours of practical training.

Have you done an internship and can you talk about it?

I have done an internship in a Catalan multinational company GRIFOLS in which they have offered me the possibility of combining them with the TFG in a project they were developing. It is a paid curricular internship with a duration of 6 months. The professional careers service helped me find this offer and managed the internship agreement. In addition, the company offers the possibility of continuity once the internship period is over.

What skills have you acquired through the degree?

The degree has helped me to be resolute and to face any problem that may arise in the future. Teamwork is very present throughout the degree since there are many subjects in which group work must be done. This is very positive since most of the current engineering teams are formed by multidisciplinary groups. I have also developed the skills of organization and planning, during the degree for the study and later for professional development. In addition, IQS has emphasized the ethical aspect of the engineering profession and has promoted sustainable development.

What would you tell a student who wants to study at IQS?

I would say that at IQS you will find a university that will help you fully in your training, with a large number of hours of practice with small groups. You will find a highly trained faculty in which there are professors who have been professionals in the industry and others with many years of experience in education and research. IQS offers many facilities by offering a compact schedule from 8 am to 2 pm from the first year to the last year and with a single class group where good friendships and study groups are formed, which are very necessary to succeed in the degree.

Have you made an exchange? Where and how long did you stay?

I did the academic exchange at the University of San Diego, California for 4 months.

What do you take away from your time there on a professional level?

On a professional level, I have been able to experience the American culture, both in terms of study and work. The work methodologies are very different from the ones we have here, the mentality is completely different and in the evaluations they look for other aspects that are not taken into account here. Oral presentations are very important, as well as competitions and team projects. In addition, the assignments are very focused on work and preparing students for the working world before they finish their studies. I think it is important to learn first-hand how other cultures work, to learn from the positive aspects and to highlight the negative ones.

Personal opinion of your international experience.

The academic exchange has been undoubtedly the best choice I could have made since I started my degree. I consider that I have had a wonderful opportunity to learn new work methodologies, meet great people and travel to wonderful destinations. When I returned from the exchange I realized that my work expectations had changed and that I was ready to open new horizons. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who has the opportunity to do it.
