Unit comprising different laboratories for advanced research and technology transfer activities mainly related to polymeric materials, biomaterials, ceramic materials and graphene. It includes special areas for microscopes and image analysis, equipment for materials characterisation and laboratories for vascular engineering and biomaterials.

Advanced materials:

  • Development of functional polymers and formulations: adhesives, silicones, polymeric thickeners, flame retardant additives, charge modification, conductive and semi-conductive polymers and inks
  • Development of biodegradable polymers
  • Qualitative chemical composition studies of polymeric materials
  • Characterisation of materials: DMA, rheology, specific surface area, particle size, DSC, TGA, XRD and microscopy

Nanotechnology + Biomedicine:

  • Development of polymeric nanoparticles for mRNA encapsulation
  • Studies on the coating of ceramic particles
  • Graphene applications
