IQS has participated in the two meetings organized by the Society of Jesus with the aim of advancing the application of Universal Apostolic Preference 4, “Caring for our Common Home.” This appeal aims to raise awareness and work towards protecting the planet.

The Apostolic Platform of Catalonia recently held a meeting in Manresa this past February. Some 50 people, from various spheres of action within the Society of Jesus in Catalonia, met to share good practices and ideas on how to make Caring for our Common Home a reality in our institutions and daily lives and how to do so in a better-coordinated manner. Salvador Borrós, Director of IQS, and Dr Oriol Pou, professor with the IQS School of Engineering, attended the meeting.

Earlier, but no less important, was the Provincial Assembly, which took place at the Loyola Shrine last April and brought together more than 160 people from all over Spain who are involved in various fields of action: schools, social centres, churches, universities, and more. “It was a space for sharing reflections and experiences that are carried out in various fields, proposing ways to keep up with communicating good practices, and strengthening the drive that is being made in so many diverse institutions where we have been present,” reflected Dr Llorenç Puig, member of the IQS Department of Ethics and Christian Thought. Carlos Malet, Associate Director of IQS, and Dr Oriol Pou were present at the meeting, which was also attended by Dr Carme Llasat, an expert in environmental issues and a member of the IQS Board of Trustees.

Regarding the two meetings, Dr Puig said “the conclusion is that we are carrying out countless actions and there is great awareness concerning the issue. Perhaps now is the time to coordinate efforts and establish communication mechanisms and to share inspiring practices that we're doing that can help advance the steps we are taking towards healing our environment and the world."
