IQS – Universitat Ramon Llull has opened the international call for applications for the 2027 Visiting Theologians Program, an initiative that offers theologians and researchers the opportunity to develop their own research project during a funded stay of three to six months in Barcelona.
IQS Opens the International Call for Applications for the 2027 Visiting Theologians Program
The program, jointly promoted by IQS and Jesuits Catalonia, in collaboration with Cristianisme i Justícia, ESADE, UNIJES and the Kircher Network, aims to strengthen the presence of theological reflection within the Jesuit higher education ecosystem and to foster dialogue between theology and the major cultural, scientific and social challenges of our time.
The call is open to national and international researchers interested in developing projects in areas such as theology and its relationship with science, technology and sustainability; faith and justice; secularization and spirituality; as well as other emerging issues related to bioethics, feminist theology and ecclesiology. In addition to carrying out their research, the selected scholar will participate in seminars and academic activities addressed to both the university community and the general public.
The 2026 edition helped consolidate the program through the participation of two internationally recognized scholars. Between January and March, Serbian theologian and philosopher Vladimir Cvetković, a specialist in patristics and Byzantine philosophy, worked on the intersection of theology and artificial intelligence. During his stay, he developed research on the ethical implications of AI from a Christian perspective, which resulted in the publication of the article From Domination to Communion: A Christian Ethics for AI, Animals, and Humanity in the academic journal Topoi.
Also between January and March 2026, theologian Miren Junkal Guevara, professor and researcher at Loyola University Andalusia and a specialist in the reinterpretation of the Bible in contemporary culture, developed the project Among Ruins and Hope: Martín-Baró (Martyr of the UCA), Psychosocial Trauma and Restoration after the Exile of Judah. Her research explores the relationship between biblical memory, collective trauma and processes of healing and hope through the figure of Jesuit scholar Ignacio Martín-Baró.
The Visiting Theologians Program is part of a broader commitment by IQS to recover and renew a dimension present since its foundation: the encounter between scientific research, philosophical inquiry and theological reflection. Through this initiative, Jesuits Catalonia and IQS seek to promote interdisciplinary reflection capable of bringing new perspectives to contemporary challenges from an academic and humanistic standpoint.
