A group of students from the ISM Munich MBA program took part last Thursday, May 21, in a visit to REPSOL, a partner company of the Fundación Empresas IQS, as part of the Study Tour organized by IQS. This initiative is part of a practical Strategic Marketing program that combines academic training with direct contact with the business environment.
IQS Brings the Business World Closer to International Students with an ISM Munich MBA Visit to Repsol
As explained by IQS School of Management professor Dr. Jan -Hinrich Meyer, from the Department of Business Management and group leader, the main objective of the Study Tour is to offer a “hands-on” experience that allows students to apply knowledge in a real context. Although this activity takes place annually, this has been the first edition to include a visit to Repsol, thus strengthening the relationship between the company and the academic institution.
The group was welcomed and guided by Javier Azagra, Production Director of Repsol’s Tarragona Industrial Complex, who provided a comprehensive overview of the company’s operations. During the day, students had the opportunity to get a firsthand look at industrial processes, with special emphasis on initiatives linked to Repsol’s net-zero emissions target for 2050, as well as advances in digitalization and industrial transformation.
The participants’ profile corresponded to an executive MBAwith students from Colombia, Kenya, India, and other countries, including chemical engineers, IT specialists, and business administration professionals. This diversity enriched the exchange during the sessions, encouraging a multidisciplinary approach to questions and discussions.
The visit included a detailed presentation on Repsol’s sustainability and innovation strategy, as well as its approach to branding and brand positioning. Afterwards, students took a guided tour of the industrial facilities, which cover approximately 500 hectares, with access to the control rooms, allowing them to gain an in-depth understanding of the company’s operations.
The experience was very positively received by both the students and the academic team. “We received excellent attention from the entire Repsol team; all questions were answered in great detail”, highlighted Professor Meyer, who also expressed interest in repeating the collaboration in future editions of the Study Tour.
