The Reference Research Centre (CIR) for Environment and Ecology at UNIJES has opened the DOMUS predoctoral grant call, an initiative aimed at funding a doctoral thesis focused on the study of environmental sustainability, collective learning and community transformation, with a focus on institutions linked to the Society of Jesus in Spain.
CIR UNIJES opens a predoctoral call on sustainability and climate resilience
The grant will fund the recruitment of a predoctoral researcher for three years at one of UNIJES’s university centres to develop the DOMUS project, driven by UNIJES’s CIR for Environment and Ecology, led by IQS, in collaboration with UNIJES’s university centres and various works of the Society of Jesus in Spain.
The research will analyse how communities of different sizes develop capacities to move towards more sustainable models through processes of environmental self-assessment, participation and collective action. The aim is to generate knowledge that helps strengthen sustainability, reduce environmental impact and improve the climate resilience of communities and institutions.
One of the project’s main outcomes will be the design and validation of an adaptive environmental self-assessment system applicable to communities and institutions of different scales, from small communities to educational centres and other works of the Society of Jesus. Beyond measuring environmental performance, this tool will help identify opportunities for improvement and facilitate the implementation of concrete transformation actions.
The project will also incorporate Service-Learning (S-L) methodologies, participatory research and data analysis to understand the factors that favour the adoption of sustainable practices and the processes of collective behaviour change.
Research to drive the ecological transition
The call is open to people with training in environmental sciences, social sciences, socio-economic studies or data science applied to social and environmental systems. Researchers from UNIJES’s university centres who could take on the supervision of the doctoral thesis are also invited to apply.
Applications may be submitted until 30 September 2026. Required documentation includes the CV of the candidate and of the thesis supervisor, a preliminary project proposal and letters of motivation.
With this new predoctoral grant, UNIJES’s CIR for Environment and Ecology is deepening one of its strategic research lines, the Just Ecological Transition, particularly in the area of climate resilience and the adaptive capacities of communities and ecosystems. Through the DOMUS project, the CIR will help generate applied knowledge and innovative tools to advance the care of our Common Home, fostering more sustainable, resilient communities and institutions committed to ecological transformation.
